Balearic heads, this one is for the summer! Maestro Tamilian composer Ilaiyaraaja’s song 'Aye Zindagi Gale Lagaa Le' gets the remix treatment by Naya Beat cofounders Turbotito & Ragz. A cult song in the pantheon of 1980s Bollywood cinema, the original features Ilaiyaraaja’s trademark strings and lush and stunning arrangement (an approach that would inspire fellow Tamilian composer AR Rahman, who incidentally assisted him on this production). Taken from the 1983 Bollywood movie ‘Sadma’ – Ilaiyaraaja’s first Bollywood score (and one of a handful of Bollywood soundtracks he did) – the movie and its music are a Hindi-language Bollywood adaptation of the 1982 Tamil movie ‘Moondram Pirai’. The original Tamil movie proved to be so popular that it was remade by the director in Hindi with the same key cast. 'Aye Zindagi Gale Lagaa Le' is loosely based on the Tamil original 'Poongatru Puthithanathu'. A true honour to remix, 'Aye Zindagi – Turbotito & Ragz Remix' is the third and final single from Naya Beat’s forthcoming Bollywood compilation and Turbotito & Ragz’ love letter to the genre.

Established in 1982, CBS Gramophone Records & Tapes (India) Ltd. became an accidental home of sorts for established composers to be experimental, up-and-coming composers to make their mark, B-movie soundtracks and straight-to-VHS releases. Out June 2023, 'Awaaz: Original Soundtrack Recordings From The Archives Of CBS Gramophone & Tapes India 1982-1986', captures the wonderful electronic, disco and ambient sounds of a label that put out great music that was different.
