Celebrated UK duo Psychemagik turn Asha Puthli’s classic ‘Right Down Here’ into a dark and sensual chugger. This is the fourth single from Naya Beat’s forthcoming and essential album featuring remixes of the legendary Indian vocalist Asha Puthli.

‘Right Down Here’ is an acid jazz classic. Written by legendary American guitarist, singer, and songwriter J. J. Cale and released on his 1972 album ‘Really’, Asha Puthli released her version a year later on her eponymously titled first solo album. A song about a painful and agonizing love affair, Cale’s version espoused the “Tulsa sound” that he would become known for: a swampy mix of folk, jazz, shuffling country blues, and rock ‘n’ roll. Asha’s take adds funk and horns with dark and oozing sensual vocals. It has gone on to become foundational to the rare groove and acid jazz repertoire. The duo that gave us the storming original ‘Mink and Shoes’ and remixes of big classics (Fleetwood Mac's 'Everywhere' and ‘Dreams’ come to mind), Psychemagik are known for their beautiful production work and prolific remixing skills. Building on the brooding, masochistic anguish of the original they take 'Right Down Here' into scintillating new sonic territory. A pulsating mix of dark, snaking bass and drums with deep space ambience and raw hits provide a turbulent and tense backdrop for Asha’s sensual vocals which are expertly weaved in with dubbed out horns. A true ode to the original!
